According to a report seen on Heavy.com, Devonte was the last child to be adopted by the Hart couple. He was born with drugs in his system and by the time he was 4 years old, he’d already handled guns, been shot at, consumed alcohol and smoke, says reports.
He was also developmentally behind, with limited speech and had behavioral problems.

After suffering from neglect and abuse, he was finally adopted and seemed to be making improvements. Along with his adoptive siblings, Devonte could be seen on the lines at protests of racial discrimination and enviornmental causes offering free hugs to protesters and law enforcement alike.
