Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake II have been named as the Baton Rouge police officers responsible for the death of Alton Sterling. The two officers have been put on administrative leave due to the investigation of the shooting, but this isn’t Lake’s first incident.
Howie Lake II is a 29 year old, 3 year veteran of the BRPD and was placed on leave back in 2014 for shooting Kevin Knight, a Black Baton Rouge resident during a domestic disturbance call. Only this time, the shooting was warranted, according to reports, and the suspect survived.

Blane Salamoni is a 28 year old, 4 year veteran, who comes from a family of government officials. His father, Captain Noel Salamoni is the commander of the Baton Rouge Police Department’s Special Operations Division and has been on the force for over 34 years. Blane’s mother, Melissa Salamoni is a retired captain from the same police department, working as the violent crime and crime scene commander.
