Whether Kevin is funny or not is redundant. Kevin is one of the few Black comedians to reach his level of success. There’s only a few comedians per generation to break the glass ceiling and make it from the stage to the silver screen. First, we had Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor, then Bill Cosby and Eddie Murphy, Mo’Nique and Steve Harvey, then Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle. Now, we have Kevin. Only a few to break through the glass ceiling that so many Black entertainers get stuck under.
We as Black people don’t have room to not support each other. We don’t have room to knock each other down. As we’ve seen from this year’s Oscar controversy, the film industry barely wants to let any of us in as it is. So, the few who make it through the door need to be celebrated. Kudos to Kevin for reminding us that when one Black person makes it though the door, they leave it open for the rest of us.
