On her custody battle with Nas:
“I didn’t get not a single cent up until 2012. I was audited a couple of years ago for alimony that he clains that I never got so our numbers didn’t match up. ”
“He sat in the deposition, sworn in […], said ‘I don’t know what bank I’m in. I don’t know who does my banking. I don’t know where my checks come from and I don’t know how much is in there'”.
On Nas as an absentee dad:
“You have a child and I do everything. Everything. You found out where he went to school 2 months ago. Not because it was a secret, because you didn’t ask. And because you don’t take him to school. And you do not pick him up. And you don’t go to dentist appointments. Or doctors, or jiu jitsu, or music, or art, or anything else that a parent does, you have no idea.
Yet, you want all the glamorous parts. You want to put a chain on him because you think he’s your mini-me, but you don’t actually want to do what parents really do.”
“I’ve been a parent. I’ve been there. It’s not about not allowing you to see him. It’s about the fact that you’ve not been there, you can’t show up when you feel like it and regulate.”
“It’s a lie to say that you can’t see [your son]. It’s because you can’t not show up for months and then show up and want to change the whole schedule, the whole plan. No sir. That is not what we’re going to do.”
On Nas claiming Kelis keeps them from their son, Knight:
“So the whole story of ‘you keep me from my child’, really? When did that happen? Was it when I was begging you to help? Or when I was waiting for you to show up to the point that I can’t even tell my child that you’re coming until you’re at the curb because of how many times you have not shown up and I will not have that for [my son]?
So yes, I am a mother. I will protect with my life. [Nas] will call me gold digger. You have to have gold to dig it.
He got money 2 years ago, guys. Let’s be real: if I was a gold digger, I wouldn’t have chosen him.”
“Nas has been to 2 birthdays” out of nearly 9 years says Kelis, adding only death and jail could keep her away from her son’s birthday if the tables were turned.
