Norma was reportedly blindsided by the divorce as the two were searching for a new house right before she learned the R&B singer had filed for divorce. Though things were looking up prior to their divorce, Norma claimed their marriage wasn’t short on the drama as the singer would sometimes become “angry and aggressive” with her and would leave her home with their then-infant daughter alone for weeks at a time.
Though she agreed to sign a prenup 3 days before they married, Norma reportedly asked a judge to increase her payments. The singer previously agreed to pay Norma $5,000 plus covering her rent and the note of a car he bought for her.
A judge granted Norma’s request for an increase, ordering Tyrese to pay a lump sum of $65,000 as Norma claimed he made $800,000 during the short time they were married. The judge also granted Norma “$6,230 a month in support, $2,730 to cover her rent, and a further $800 towards her car payments”, according to reports.
Tyrese previously said he only married Norma because she feared deportation.
“That marriage, was a marriage, but it wasn’t really a marriage…She’s from London and we had a baby on the way. When immigration is calling you gotta do what you gotta to do…I did it to keep her in the country”, Tyrese told Angie Martinez during a 2015 radio interview.
Norma also claims Tyrese was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder as well as manic behavior by three psychotherapists. He denies this.
“A lot of men with money and more power, especially with passive women, are using the legal system to abuse these women”, said Norma in a previous interview on Tyrese. “Then they can point the finger and say, ‘Look at her, she’s crazy,’ because one day you just explode and can’t take it anymore.”
