I’m still trying figure out how a pastor saying “homosexuality is a sin” is shocking to people.
After her “controversial” sermon on homosexuality went viral, Kim Burrell’s weekly college radio show “Bridging the Gap With Kim Burrell,” was canceled, Texas Southern University confirmed in a statement Thursday, January 5.
“The Kim Burrell show is no longer airing as part of KTSU Radio programming,” the university said in the statement.
Kim Burrell was also scheduled to attend the BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Honors as an honoree next weekend, but has since been disinvited. In a statement, BMI announced Burrell’s removal from the ceremony scheduled for Jan. 14:
“BMI’s Trailblazers of Gospel Music is an annual celebration of gospel music and its many talented songwriters. Given the controversy surrounding this year’s co-honoree Kim Burrell, we have asked her to not take part in the ceremony in order to allow the focus to remain on the songwriters and their music.
BMI was founded over 76 years ago with an open door policy to welcome songwriters across all genres, and that same spirit of tolerance, diversity and inclusiveness continues today.”
For those asking, Kim Burrell will not be appearing on my show.

Kim Burrell was also scheduled to perform “I See Victory” from the Hidden Figures soundtrack, alongside Pharrell Williams on The Ellen Degeneres Show, but was also disinvited. Both Ellen and Pharrell sat down to discuss Kim’s sermon on the show. Watch below:
