Back in September, Lil Wayne who once rapped about systematic racism and the genocide of African Americans by trigger-happy cowardly cops shocked fans in an FOX Sports interview when he said “racism doesn’t exist”. The Hollygrove Marshall who made a career rapping about the perils of being a Black man in Amerikkka now echoed the sentiments of a delusional Trump supporter by saying racism didn’t exist in Wayne’s world and his legions of White fans were proof of it. Fans took to social media labelling Weezy a “sell out” and “coon” for his duplicity.
The rapper’s views on race has landed him in hot water again after he sat down with Linsey Davis, a Black woman reporter from ABC’s Nightline and stormed off the set after being asked about Black Lives Matter. He first questioned why Black Lives Matter was a movement to begin with, saying it was just a few people who got shot for bad reasons, and those acts shouldn’t constitute a movement. He also stands behind his statements from the September FOX Sports interview:
Linsey Davis: “There was a lot of backlash from people about that. Would you change what you said?”
Wayne: “No, not at all.”
LD: “What’s your thought on Black Lives Matter?”
Wayne: “What is it? What do you mean?”
LD: “The idea was that there was this movement called Black Lives Matter, thinking that the rest of America didn’t seem to understand that, that Black lives matter.”
Wayne: “That just sounds weird. I don’t know. That you put a name on. It’s not a name. It’s not — whatever, whatever. It’s somebody got shot by police for a fucked up reason. I am a young, Black, rich motherfucker. If that don’t let you know that America understand Black motherfuckers matter these days, I don’t know what it is.”
(Wayne points to the camera man)
Wayne: “That man White. He filming me. I’m a nigga! I don’t know what you mean, man. Don’t come at me with that dumb shit, ma’am. My life matters, especially to my bitches.”
LD: “Do you separate yourself from [the Black Lives Matter movement]?”
Wayne: “I don’t feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got none to do with me. If you do, you’re crazy as shit. You! I’m connected to this fucking flag right here”, says Wayne as he pulls out a red flag, signifying his allegiance to the Blood gang. “I’m a gangbanger, mam. I’m connected.”
Angry with this line of questioning, Wayne says “I ain’t no fucking politician” and storms off set. Watch the interview below:
