The funeral service of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali will take place today in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. The funeral will be held at the KFC YUM sports arena, which will open its doors for attendees at 11:30am, in downtown Louisville. The funeral is open to the public, but only ticket holders will be allowed to attend. All 18,000 free tickets for the funeral were given out Wednesday and were gone within an hour.
According to NJ.com, the speakers include “Bill Clinton, Bryant Gumbel, and Billy Crystal will deliver eulogies. Valerie Jarrett, President Obama’s senior advisor, will read a statement on Obama’s behalf. In addition, per Ali’s request, more speakers will include representatives of multiple faiths—Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism and Mormonism. The king of Jordan and president of Turkey will attend”.
Pallbearers include “Rahaman Ali, Victor Bender, Howard Bingham, The Honorable John Y. Brown, George Chuvalo, Ronald DiNicola, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Gene Kilroy, Jerry Perenchio, Michael Phenner, Dr. Harvey Sloane, Cleve Walker, Harlan Werner and Will Smith”.
ESPN, CNN, HLN, TV One, CBS News, and Bounce TV will be airing the funeral service live on television and online.
