Cynthia announced she and Peter were separated on May 31, 2016:
“Peter and I are separated. He lives in Charlotte, and I live in Atlanta,” the Real Housewives of Atlanta star confirmed to The Daily Dish Tuesday afternoon. “I am definitely taking some time to myself to figure out how I want to move forward. I don’t want to rush into anything, so I think this time apart is good for us.”
On July 5, 2016, Cynthia announced plans to divorce Peter, just a few weeks shy of their 6 year wedding anniversary:
“I don’t want it to be an ugly divorce because I still love Peter. I just don’t want to be married to Peter anymore.”
On July 11, 2016, Peter said he was blindsided by Cynthia’s announcement, admitting he did not want the divorce. He told Uptown Magazine that he still loved Cynthia and denied ever cheating on her:
“We have discussed divorce. It wasn’t something that I wanted. But it is something that I believe she thinks she needs. And honestly, I wish we could have made the public announcement jointly.
“I love Cynthia. I have never cheated on her. She knows this. I have never taken money from Cynthia. She knows this. I have never done anything, but love and defend my wife. She knows this too.”
Days later, on July 16, 2016, Peter’s new girlfriend Toni began posting videos of Peter’s family, referring to Peter’s brother Earl as “her brother” inside of Peter’s sports bar:
In March 2017, Cynthia claimed her divorce was finalized, but according to court documents, the couple didn’t officially file for divorce until February 21, 2017 in Fulton County Superior Court.
This means Peter was still legally married when Toni came around in 2016.
There’s a little bit of truth in every rumor.
