45 year old rapper DMX was found laying unconscious next to a parked car Monday evening.
Cops responded to a 911 call on a man passed out at a Ramada Inn in Yonkers, NY after 6PM. When they arrived on the scene, they found DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was not breathing and did not have a pulse.
According to reports, a witness told police Simmons “ingested some sort of powder” before passing out. The cops proceeded to give the rapper Narcan, an antidote used to treat narcotic overdoses in emergency situations. Simmons’ body reacted and he became “semi-conscious”. He was taken to the hospital where he fully regained consciousness.
Despite reports alleging the rapper succumbed to his past drug habits, Simmons insists he did not ingest any illegal narcotics and says he lost his breath after a bout of bronchitis.
A relative of Simmons backs up his story, saying before he passed out, Simmons asked for his inhaler. The relative says they didn’t get to his inhaler in time to stop him from passing out.
Simmons has battled a cocaine addiction since he was a teenager. When he was 14 years old, he smoked a blunt that he thought was filled with marijuana. Unbeknownst to him, it was laced with cocaine, and for the next 25+ years, cocaine would have rule over his life.
“[Cocaine] was something that drew me in, and trapped me, and just had a hold on me for a long, long time,” Simmons Phil in 2013.
“I’m always going to be an addict. I’m going to be an addict until I die. It doesn’t mean I have to get high.”
Simmons erratic behavior and legal problems during the course of his career have been tied to his drug addiction, and has burned bridges between he and his 12 children.
Simmons has stayed out of trouble in recent years and was even seen getting back in the studio with hip-hop’s legendary producer Swizz Beatz. Swizz tweeted he spoke to Simmons today and Simmons is doing well:
For now, let’s hope the rapper stays on the right track.
So if he has family backing up the fact that he needed his inhaler, why is the focus in this story geared towards his past drug use. ?! I don’t understand why you feel the need to drag someone through the dirt for a story.
