6. DNC Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schult and Other Staff Bad-Mouthed Sanders:
When asked by NBC Moderator Chuck Todd if the DNC had been fair to him, Bernie replied “yes and no”. Bernie pushed for the DNC to set up more debates amongst its candidates so the public could see for themselves which candidate was the best pick.
The DNC responded by scheduling debates on nights with the least amount of TV viewers:
Pointing to the Democratic debate schedule, of which three of the first four took place on weekend nights, Sanders said they were “scheduled — pretty clearly, to my mind, at a time when there would be minimal viewing audience….”
“But you know, that’s the way it is. We knew we were taking on the establishment,” he said. “And here we are. So [I’m] not complaining.”
The debates never happened as Clinton’s team refused to participate, ensuring other Democratic candidates did not receive more exposure.
After this story was published, DNC chairman Wasserman Schultz bad mouthed Sanders in an email:
“Spoken like someone who has never been a member of the Democratic Party and has no understanding of what we do”.
NOTE: Sanders was originally an Independent candidate before switching to Democrat during his campaign. An Independent candidate has never won the seat presidency. The closest one ever came was in 1912.
Wasserman Schult also called Sanders’ campaign manager “scummy” and “a damn liar”. DNC staff members reportedly bashed Sanders whenever he won a state’s votes over Hillary. One campaign strategist referred to Sanders as “obnoxious” when he nearly 5 points over Hillary in the Indiana primary.
