Early Thursday morning, Prince passed away at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota. His publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure confirmed in a statement:
“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary iconic performer, Prince, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”
Prince was hospitalized earlier this month after fighting flu-like symptoms over the last several weeks. His private jet made an emergency landing in Illinois after Prince performed in Atlanta on April 14th, while still feeling ill. After the performance, the star reportedly felt worse while aboard his jet and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital after the emergency landing. He was released three hours later and sent home to rest.
That following Saturday on April 16th, Prince hopped onstage to play his guitar for fans in his Minnesota neighborhood and showed them he was alive and well, saying “wait a few days before you waste any prayers”.
