20 year old Lakers player D’Angelo Russell is reportedly being shunned by his teammates after a prank gone wrong.
Russell pranked his teammate, 30 year old Nick Young by filming a private conversation between the two where Young admitted to cheating on his fiancé, rapper Iggy Azealea over the summer. Young doesn’t appear to know he’s being recorded as he brags about meeting a 19 year old woman at a nightclub whom he cheated on his 25 year old fiancé with.
That video was leaked last week. During the conversation, Russell also questioned Young on whether he’d cheated on Iggy with other celebrities, such as Amber Rose. Young replied, “No, she knows my girl”.
After getting Nick to admit to cheating, Russell says “I’m glad you told my video all that.” “Huh?” Young replies, then turning his face toward Russell before the video cuts off. Watch the FULL VIDEO below:
Since the leaking of the video, Russell has been shunned by his Lakers teammates and deemed untrustworthy.
No one would sit with Russell at the team’s Monday breakfast meeting. Teammate Lou Williams, who’s been in the blogs for his polygamous relationship, has even shunned the player. According to ESPN, Russell came into the locker room and sat next to Williams, who got up and walked away.
It’s unknown how the tape leaked, but Russell’s prank landed him in the hot seat. Even Lakers coach Byron Scott has publicly scolded Russell for his immaturity.
“He’s such a kid,” Scott said in February. “I told him the other day, ‘You’re 19, but sometimes I think you’re 14.'”
Russell is even being blamed for the team’s recent loss against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City Monday night. The tension between the teammates ended in a 48 point loss by the Lakers to Utah, the worst loss in their franchise history.
“Young hasn’t played in 10 games and didn’t travel with the team to Salt Lake City because of gastroenteritis”, according to ESPN.
One team source reported there were already trust issues among the teammates, and thanks to Russell, the trust among the men has been severed completely.
Social media has taken shots at Russell for the sour prank. Beyoncé’s outspoken uncle, Larry Beyince referred to Russell as the next Kobe, not for his skill, but for snitching:
